I was sitting at the kitchen table watching Natalie doodle the other day and I realised we both doodle similar flower designs. Natalie literally can't sit with a pen in her vicinity without picking it up and drawing flowers and scrolls on any available surface, tesco receipt, post it note, prescription, inside a cereal box, nothing is safe.
I am fascinated by how this motif has always been present through both of our lives but it's only now I'm really noticing it. Obviously for me it is expressed through glass, my favourite beads to make are, and have always been, floral focals. Layers of colour, filled with flowers, sparkling cubic zirconia and the occasional butterfly flitting by, what's not to love?
I like to make my floral beads by placing each petal individually and melting them simultaneously to create a flower that looks exactly like my doodles. To give you an idea of what I mean have a look at the video in my recent blog post, A Floral Glass Bead in The Making. Over the years I have experimented with different ways of making floral beads but I always come back to this. In some way this simple, whimsical motif just seems to represent me.
Here are some from 5 years ago, back in 2016 that are long gone but if you want to know next time I have some new floral beads for sale click here to join my email list.... hint: it's usually a Spring Summer thing!
