Lampwork Cabochons

The scaffolding went up this week for the work to start on removing the outside render from the house. I know it's not going to be up for long but it makes the house so gloomy inside, which is a shame because the sun has been out this week... or at least I think it has! I have been working on something new for me, cabochons. I tried to buy some cab mandrels but the size I wanted wasn't available so I went old school, off mandrel and I have to say I am very happy with the early results. They are a little bit taller than I wanted but that is easy enough to remedy and gloriously, because they are off mandrel, I don't have to clean up any bead release - yay... it's the little things.

The next stage, apart from refining the cab shape, will be making silver bezels and mounting them. I am really excited about this, I love making jewellery from scratch and it has been too long since my last piece.

Here is my favourite one so far and just to give you an idea of size this one sits perfectly on an English penny.
